Is fine-tuning the same as training a model from scratch?

No. Fine-tuning adapts an existing model; the TRL SFT documentation describes one implementation route. The buyer still needs data preparation, evaluation and deployment around that training step.

Does valid JSON prove an extraction model is accurate?

No: syntax and schema conformity do not establish that a value matches the source. The IFStruct tutorial focuses on structural compliance, so a buyer should add field correctness and complete-document acceptance tests.

Can synthetic examples replace our holdout?

Use generated examples for controlled development, not as the only evidence of production performance. Keep real independent cases and record provenance; the query-clarification study is an example of task-specific evidence, not a universal data recipe.

Should we accept an LLM judge without human review?

No. Anthropic’s guidance describes the need for human calibration; compare false passes and false failures on adjudicated buyer cases before using the judge to make an award decision.

Is a $20,000 monthly API bill the break-even point?

No: that number is a prospecting hypothesis in the supplied context, not a market threshold. Recompute costs from workload, acceptance and operating obligations, using dated supplier pricing where relevant.

Are open weights unrestricted?

No. Review the exact licence and dependencies; Llama 3.3 is released under a specific agreement. Ownership of an adapter does not by itself grant every right needed to distribute the combined system.

How often should we retrain?

Use a diagnosed failure and an approved test to trigger retraining, rather than a calendar alone. Error analysis can indicate a prompt, data or workflow repair instead; reassess after material workload or baseline changes.

Can we assess feasibility without sending customer records?

A metadata-only inventory can reveal missing ownership, rights, volume and evaluation prerequisites. It cannot prove model quality; where health information is involved, HHS guidance also makes clear that processing arrangements matter before data transfer.
