Hiring signals

How do we distinguish a buying signal from normal recruitment?

Frontier Development research deskSection 05 · Page 4 of 12Last updated 26 October 2026

Treat a role as one observation. It becomes a stronger commercial signal only when it aligns with a publicly stated product change, a relevant production task and a confirmed owner willing to discuss a constraint.

For example, a document SaaS hiring an evaluation engineer might be preparing a new product, replacing a departing colleague or building capability in-house. None of those possibilities proves a consultant budget. A platform recruiting field engineers may be expanding supplier-side delivery capacity, not purchasing model development itself.

Use a short evidence ledger: employer, vacancy URL, observed date, actual responsibility text summarised in your own words, product connection, hypothesis, contrary explanation and next question. Mark signals stale when the listing closes. Do not infer sensitive information about candidates or scrape personal details to fill missing context.
